Against the backdrop of the high-end equipment manufacturing industry’s push towards higher performance and lower costs, BLT has announced the launch of BLT-TA19. This new material, developed for the Laser-based powder bed fusion of metals (PBF-LB/M) process, addresses the growing opportunities and challenges in producing high-temperature titanium alloy components. BLT-TA19 delivers on three core advantages: high strength, high-temperature resistance, and low cost, making it ideal for a wide range of applications in the automotive, aerospace, and energy industries.

In terms of mechanical properties, BLT-TA19 successfully overcomes the technical hurdles commonly associated with PBF-LB/M for high-temperature titanium alloys, such as cracking and poor formability. It also resolves the segregation of high-melting-point elements in the powder. Using dedicated printing parameters, the material achieves an excellent balance between strength and plasticity.

The as-deposited strength of BLT-TA19 shows a 200 MPa improvement over the conventional TA15 alloy. Following heat treatment, its room temperature strength can be further enhanced by 130-150 MPa. Its high-temperature mechanical properties are equally impressive. At 500℃, its strength is approximately 150 MPa higher than that of TA15. Furthermore, its performance at 550℃ significantly surpasses that of TA15 at 500℃, filling a long-standing gap in additive manufacturing materials for 550℃ service conditions.

BLT-TA19 powder is manufactured using a mature and stable production process, ensuring high yield and consistent physical properties. The powder offers high sphericity, excellent flowability, and outstanding mechanical performance, providing a reliable and sustainable additive manufacturing solution for high-end manufacturing sectors.
